Busowoko falls
welcome to busowoko falls

Imagine a place where you can experience the thrill of tubing down the rapids of the Nile River, surrounded by lush green forests and stunning waterfalls. A place where you can relax and enjoy the natural beauty and tranquility of Uganda’s countryside. A place where you can learn about the rich history and culture of the local communities. It sounds too good to be true, right? Well, such a place exists, and it’s called Busowoko Falls.

Location

Busowoko Falls is situated in Bususwa/Bukongo settlement, immediately after Namavundu Forest, downstream on the Nile, around 19 km from Jinja City. Off the rough Kimaka-Budondo-Kibibi road is where you'll find it.

One of the last significant waterfalls on the Nile is Busowoko Falls, as hydroelectric power dams have drowned out several others, including the formerly well-known Bujagali Falls. It becomes much more remarkable as a result.

Popularity

The falls have drawn hundreds of visitors since they gained popularity in 2019, primarily on weekends. The location has allure and mystery due to the roaring seas and picturesque vistas for pictures.

Dozens of largely youthful revelers can be seen taking pictures, enjoying the landscape, and occasionally jumping into the rushing waves on an average weekend.

Thrilling Activities

For those who seek adrenaline, Busowoko Falls is the perfect place to indulge in some exciting water sports. The falls are part of the Jinja Nile rafting route, which is considered one of the best in the world. Visitors can choose from whitewater rafting, kayaking, or body surfing, depending on their level of skill and adventure. The rapids range from grade 3 to 5, offering a thrilling challenge for both beginners and experts. The guides are professional and friendly, ensuring a safe and fun experience. The equipment is well maintained, and the prices are reasonable.

The downside

However, that's all there is to it after the photo ops—literally nothing more exists after that. Apart from some improvised grass thatched hats and a small, name-only resort with limited amenities, there are no further services, lodging, food, beverages, or resorts of any kind nearby.

The road leading up to the falls is also in a sorry state.

Most celebrants just go on to other locations in Jinja a short while after the photo ops and taking in the breathtaking view at the falls, as there isn't much to hold them there for much longer.
In addition, there are no safety precautions at the Falls to guarantee that nobody falls into the swiftly moving waters by accident.
