The best coffee in Kampala

If you are a coffee lover, you won't want to miss 1000 Cups, a cosy cafe that serves the finest and freshest coffee in the city. Located opposite the Buganda Road craft markets, this place is a favourite of Lonely Planet and other Uganda guidebooks and has won numerous awards worldwide for the quality of its coffee.

A Wide Selection of Local and International Coffees

At 1000 Cups, you can choose from a variety of local and imported coffees, from the Mt. Elgon and the Rwenzori regions to Rwanda and Tanzania. You can have them in a cafetiere or as a latte or cappuccino. You can also try some exotic blends, such as Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk or the mysterious Starbucks blend. The prices are reasonable, ranging from 3,000 to 10,000 UGX per cup. You can also buy bags of coffee beans and ground coffee to take home for 10,000 UGX.

Simple food and delicious desserts

Besides coffee, 1000 Cups also offers simple foods such as hot and cold sandwiches, salads, and grilled goat or chicken. The food is not very impressive, but it is decent enough for a quick bite. The sandwiches cost between 10,000 and 12,000 UGX, the salads cost 10,000 UGX, and the mains cost 15,000 UGX. The real highlight of the food menu, however, is the cakes and desserts. The banana loaf is especially good and costs 6,500 UGX.

A Lively Atmosphere, But No WiFi

The cafe has a small seating area that can get crowded at times. It is not very quiet or peaceful, as it is right next to Buganda Road. However, it has a lively atmosphere that attracts tourists and locals alike. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the service is fast. The only downside is that there is no wifi or power outlets available, so it is not a good place to work on your laptop. But if you are looking for a place to chat with friends or enjoy some good coffee, 1000 Cups is a great option.
