If you’re a parent or a caretaker in Kampala, you know the struggle of finding fun and safe places to take your kids. You love them, but sometimes you need a break from their endless energy and demands. You also want them to have a good time and make some friends. Luckily, Kampala has plenty of options for you and your little ones to enjoy. Whether you’re looking for a pool, a playground, a restaurant, or a zoo, we’ve got you covered. Here are some of the best spots to take your kids in Kampala, depending on which side of town you’re on.

North Side: Kabira Country Club, Time2Play

If you live in Kololo, Bukoto, Ntinda, or nearby, you have some great choices for a family day out.

Kabira Country Club

Kabira Country Club is a popular spot for swimming, playing, and relaxing. They have a large pool, a child’s pool, a supervised play area, and a grassy field. You can also treat yourself to a gym session, a massage, or a steam bath while your partner watches the kids.

Time2Play

Time2Play in Kiwatule is the largest indoor play centre in town, with slides, pools, bouncy castles, face painters, and sand pits. They also have a daycare nursery and a parental rest area, in case you need to get some work done. The parental rest area at Time2Play in Kiwatule provides a comfortable space for parents to relax and recharge while their children play. Additionally, the daycare nursery offers a convenient option for parents who need childcare services while attending to other responsibilities.

South Side: Munyonyo Speke Resort, Cafe Roma, Hotel International, Makindye Country Club, UWEC

If you’re on the south side of town, in Muyenga, Kansanga, Bunga, or nearby, you also have some amazing options for your kids.

Munyonyo Speke Resort

Munyonyo Speke Resort is a lakeside paradise, with children’s pools, a play area, a lifeguard, and a waterfront. You can also take your kids to ride a bike, skate, or build sandcastles on the well-paved track, the grassy area, or the small beach.

Cafe Roma

Cafe Roma is a favourite for Italian food lovers, but it is also a fantastic place to take your kids for lunch or dinner. They have facilities with swings, trampolines, and a sand pit, open until 8 p.m.

Hotel International

Hotel International is another fun spot, with swimming, swinging, sliding, and even donkey rides. They have staff on site to watch your kids, so you can relax and have a meal. The hotel's staff is trained to ensure the safety of your kids while they have a great time exploring the outdoor area.

Makindye Country Club

Makindye Country Club is a great place for your kids to run around and make some noise. They have a large swimming pool, a wading pool, a playground, a media and book library, and sports groups for older kids. They also have a kid-friendly menu at the restaurant.

Wonder World Amusement Park

This amusement park, established in 2002, is home to a wide range of thrill rides, kid rides, family rides, water slides, and a number of kid attractions. It’s also home to East Africa’s largest auditorium, Wonder Cinema. On show are the latest blockbuster movies in a serene state-of-the-art cinema hall. The park is a great place for kids to have fun and for parents to relax. Despite some reviews mentioning that the park is a bit run-down and not all rides are operational, it still remains a popular destination for families. So, if you’re looking for a day of fun-filled activities, Wonder World Amusement Park could be a great choice.

If you have a whole day free, you can also take your kids to the Ugandan Wildlife Education Centre in Entebbe (also known as the zoo). They can see all kinds of animals, from rhinos to zebras to leopards, and learn about their life cycles and habitats. They can also enjoy donkey rides, a play area, and a lakeside picnic.

So next time your kids are bored and restless, don’t despair. Just pick one of these awesome places and take them for a day of fun and adventure. They’ll be happy, tired, and grateful. And you’ll be able to enjoy some peace and quiet, and maybe even a glass of wine. You deserve it, you superstar parent. After all, grownups need some fun too.
