Kampala City is full of endless places to enjoy outdoor activities and sports. HiUG takes a look at some of the best places to play sports in this borough. Whether you're a fan of football, basketball, or tennis, Kampala City offers a diverse range of options for sports enthusiasts. From well-maintained stadiums to local parks with designated courts, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Additionally, the city's vibrant community and competitive spirit make it an ideal destination for both amateur and professional athletes alike.

Basketball

If you wish to play, the MTN Arena features professional games, or you can pay to use the courts at the YMCA and Silver Springs. It's also worth mentioning Kabira Country Club. Kabira Country Club offers basketball facilities for both recreational and competitive players. With its well-maintained courts and vibrant atmosphere, it's a popular choice among basketball enthusiasts in Kampala City. Additionally, the club organises regular tournaments and training sessions for those looking to improve their skills and compete at a higher level.

Cycling

Yellow Haven and Go Free run tours. Go Free also rents and repairs bicycles. Look up 'Activate Uganda,' bikeventures.org, and kampalacycling.com for upcoming activities. These organisations offer a variety of cycling activities, such as guided tours and events, allowing individuals to explore the beautiful landscapes of Uganda on two wheels. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced cyclist, these opportunities provide a chance to connect with fellow biking enthusiasts and discover new routes in Kampala City and beyond.

Golf

Uganda Golf Club is a 6684-yard, par-72 course with five par 3s and five par 5s. It's a green sanctuary in the centre of the city for anyone looking to get away from the concrete jungle! The course's sweeping elevation changes, as well as the Kitante canal that flows through it, give a fantastic challenge with plenty of rewards for anyone ready to take on the challenge.

Gyms

Gyms range in price from extremely low to very high. Beautiful but costly are the Serena and Kabira Country Clubs. The Speke Apartments, Sheraton, and Paradise Fitness are all a little less expensive. Positive Emotions, City Gym, Makindye Country Club, and The Edge are all excellent values.

Horseback Riding

At Speke Resort and Flametree Stables, you may enjoy trail riding or take lessons. Both locations offer a variety of options for riders of all skill levels. Whether you're a beginner looking to learn the basics or an experienced rider wanting to explore scenic trails, Speke Resort and Flametree Stables have something for everyone.

Running

Running is popular in Kampala, despite the traffic, pollution, and potholes. For peaceful roads, head to the Kololo, Naguru, Nakasero, and Bugolobi hills, or do laps at Lugogo Stadium. On Mondays, the 'Kampala Hash House Harriers' (a drinking club with a running problem!) meet. Look up 'Activate Uganda' for a comprehensive list of all the Kampala runs and other sporting events.

Swimming

Kampala boasts pleasant weather and numerous pools in which to relax. Serena, Cassia Lodge, Speke Apartments, Red Chilli, or Emin Pasha are all good places to relax. Laps can also be done at Speke Resort, Silver Springs, Hotel Africana, Royal Suites, and Makindye Country Club. Family-friendly attractions include Freedom City, Da Jacaranda, and Kids World.

Tennis

Courts may be found at Kabira Country Club, Lugogo Tennis Club, and Makindye Country Club. These clubs offer well-maintained courts and also provide coaching services for beginners or those looking to improve their skills. Additionally, some of these clubs host regular tournaments and events for tennis enthusiasts to participate in or spectate.

Yoga

Yoga-focused spaces include Acacia Wellbeing Centre and the Enlightened Cat. Yoga is available in several gyms. Some gyms in the city, also offer yoga classes as part of their fitness programmes. These classes are led by experienced instructors who guide participants through various poses and breathing exercises to promote physical and mental well-being.
