The Ultimate Guide To The Wild Waters Lodge: Everything You Need To Know.

WILD WATERS LODGE is nestled in a luxuriant rainforest on it's own private island, mid-stream in the mighty Nile and is breathtakingly beautiful. The expansive, canvas walled, traditionally thatched rooms each boast private decks with elegant free-standing baths and wash basins carved from the local pink granite. Softly lit with hand-made furniture, you can relax in comfort on this island paradise listening to the thunder of the Nile rapids, and the calls of the many species of bird who call the island home.

The Ultimate Guide To The Wild Waters Lodge: Everything You Need To Know.

Situated on 6.5 hectares of unspoiled Kalangala island paradise. Nestled in between thundering rapids on the Nile River, the only way to get there is on a canoe.

Walking through an interlinked wooden walkway to the main Lodge. The whole walkway covers about 1.5 kilometers.

There's a swimming pool in the main lodge area on the far right of the walkway.

Which is the best room at the wild waters lodge.

According to the director of wild waters lodge from their past guests' experiences, everybody has their favorite room because each room is extremely unique.

The rooms can be categorized into two.

  1. The quiet side.

Where by the rooms on the left of the main lodge area, are the ones on the quiet side of the Nile. These are about four rooms and are pretty quiet, you can sleep out there like a baby, all you will hear is the sound of the wind.

  1. The loud side.

On the other hand, rooms on the right are where the action is. This is where the river flows fastest, so they are at the rapids and it feels like it's raining all night.

  1. The family room.

For families, you may prefer the family room. That is room number three. It is a double storage room. You can have the parents down at the bottom and it keeps up.

All the rooms have got canvas walls. When you get out onto the balcony there is an elegant bathtub. Every room has that unique aspect with it.

What makes Wild Waters Lodge unique?

At the top of the list is the amazing architectural design. Everything in the forest was not touched but rather the lodge was built around the existing features on the island, and  fits perfectly within the ecosystem.

All the rooms are nested within the river Nile forest on this island.

Every room has a private view, private decks with breathtaking views.

Wild Waters Lodge is also close to Kampala, just an hour and a half.

When you take a walk around you definitely see the value in being at Wild Waters Lodge.

That room is called Aswan. It was named Aswan after the Aswan High Dam in river nile. Bathroom and toilets are located far right of the room. With pink granite stone of a water sink, an artwork of Brad Mclain. When he saw this granite stone he was moved by it, did some few tricks on it with his tools and got it working.

The shower is made of concrete with the South African paste on finishing. It is truly the most unique shower.

The room is made of a wooden deck floor. There’s a bed for the night and another day bed.

All of the furniture in these rooms is hand made by the local crew that was stationed on the Island during construction of the lodge.

Dinning

Later in the evening I was treated to the true definition of a three-course meal. I decided that we could do it with a little culinary education. With the chef at Wild Waters Lodge.

Starter

For a starter the chef prepared the tasty chili beef salad drizzled with a dressing of olive oil and a garnish of sesame.

Main course

Just like clockwork, the main course was placed in front of me. A beautiful tender medium rare beef filet served with an onion and tomato salsa, a broccoli puree, cauliflower and a side of symmetrical square chips.

Dessert

And for the desert I was served with mud cake with a smaller cup filled with whipped cream.

What to See and Do at Wildwaters Lodge

  • Horse riding
  • Kayaking
  • Fishing
  • Rafting

White water rafting

Adrift has an unparalleled safety record that is both unrivaled and admired for over our 28 years in operation. Over 58,000 customers have safely rafted the Nile with Adrift, including Prince William, Ginger Spice, Mikka Hakkinen, Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman, to name just a few.

It would not be alright to come all the way out to wild waters Lodge and not get into the wild waters of the Nile. After checking in we went rafting.

After a crash course and how not to drown, we were off. The first rapid was much closer than I thought it would be and everything I was just told, just left my head. Pure instincts kicked in. I was still catching my breath when we got to the second rapid. I felt so alive my body was running on pure adrenaline. my heart was pounding. My pupils were dilated, but the kayakers were there to help us. Couldn't be any more bored, just another day at the office for them. I guess we finally got to a rather peaceful portion of the river and our rafting guide told us that the next rapid was at least twice as strong as the last two we had just taken on. For me there was only one logical way to respond to this news. And the rest of the crew were off to take on the mother of Rapids. As soon as they started approaching the rapid every fiber in my body was saying that this is a bad idea. Halfway and the guys were doing really well.

Bungee Jumping with Adrift

The next day before we left Jinja there was one last thing left to do. It was definitely one of the most bizarre and unforgettable experiences of my life to have to force myself to leap from a platform at what seemed like an impossible height above the Nile.

The Jump master in charge of the platform kindly assured me that the most dangerous thing about bungee jumping was driving on the road between Kampala and Jinja.
