Makindye
Makindye is a hill in Kampala, Uganda's largest city and capital. The name also refers to the neighborhood that sits on that hill. Makindye is also the seat of Makindye Division, one of the five administrative zones of the city of Kampala.
Location of Makindye
Makindye is bordered to the north by Nsambya, to the northwest by Kibuye, to the west by Najjanankumbi, to the south by Lubowa in the Wakiso District, to the southeast by Luwafu, and to the east by Lukuli. To the northeast of Makindye are Kansanga and Kabalagala. Makindye and Kampala's financial centre are roughly 6 kilometres away from one another by vehicle (3.7 mi).
Overview
One of the first seven hills on which the capital city of Kampala is located is Makindye. There are several zones in it, including the Kizungu and Kiwempe zones. It includes Bulinguge Island in Lake Victoria and spans from Katwe, Namuwongo, and Nakivubo to Lake Victoria. It also passes along Salama Road and shares boundaries with Indeeba before returning to Katwe.
There are many hotels, resorts, beaches, restaurants, and lodges there. Ggaba Beach, Speke Resort, and Conference Center are a few among them. Among others are Casia Lodge, the Aga Khan Academy Grounds, and the Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort.
On Makindye Hill, there are sizable middle class neighbourhoods. The surrounding area is frequently used to raise vegetables on many of the residences.
