Mulago
Mulago is a hill located in north-central Kampala, Uganda's capital city. The hill is 1,260 metres (4,134 ft) above sea level. The communities that are situated on this hill also go by that name.
Location of Mulago
Mulago is located in Kawempe Division, one of Kampala's five administrative districts. By car, it is about 4 kilometres (2.5 miles) north of the city's main commercial sector.
Overview
The name "omulago," which was employed by King Suna II to protect himself against spirits and was stored atop this hill, was the source of the name "mulago."
The Mulago Hospital is the prominent feature on this 4,134-foot elevation. Old Mulago Hospital, built in 1917, and New Mulago Hospital amalgamated in 1960 to establish a massive complex that is the country's primary referral hospital. The Makerere University Medical School is also housed in the complex.
The National Museum and the Uganda Wildlife Authority's main office are located at Kamwokya at the bottom of the hill, about one kilometer from the hospital. This is also where the new British High Commission is located.
However, hospital-related enterprises such as a Doctor's Village, research labs, and pharmacies dominate the hill. However, there is a bustling market at Kamwokya and a small residential neighborhood that looks out over the museum.
