Of all the many adventures in Uganda, the number one on many tourists' lists is going on a mountain gorilla trekking tour.

It is a once in a lifetime experience and even the hike through the cloudy and dense jungle of Bwindi Impenetrable forest is an adventure.

The mountain gorillas are an endangered species of less than 1,000 total individuals in the entire world. There are 3 countries in the world where you can get this incredible sort of wildlife experience and Uganda is one of them.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in South Western Uganda is home to the largest number of mountain gorilla families.

To protect both the primates and tourists, Wildlife authorities in Uganda enforce strict rules for gorilla trekking. Therefore, you need a permit from the Wildlife authority to track the gorillas.

See the Tree-climbing Lions

Among the top adventures in Uganda is a glance at tree-climbing lions. You can find these odd lions in the Ishasha region of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Since the lions hunt mostly at night and sleep through the day in the trees, you may spot them between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.

While you're in Queen Elizabeth National Park, you will appreciate opportunities to glimpse other wildlife species. Other adventures include hot-air balloon rides, boat cruises on Kazinga Channel, and while at it, enjoy scenic drives to see Crater Lake, and the Blue Mountains in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Visit the Murchison Falls

At the Murchison Falls, you can see a stunning waterfall formed as the river Nile's flow is forced through an 8-metre gap into Devil's Cauldron as it is commonly known.

Uganda's largest national park, Murchison Falls National Park, offers both land and water safaris. Taking both safaris allows you to spot crocodiles, Rothschild giraffe, and warthog, buffalos and elephants.

Canoe at Lake Bunyonyi

Lake Bunyonyi, strategically positioned in the far south-western part of Uganda, is a dream. Imagine a tranquil atmosphere and beautiful lake, surrounded by warm people, green hills, dotted with islands and filled with beautiful birds. That is Lake Bunyonyi.

Bunyonyi is the deepest lake in Uganda and second deepest in Africa, yet with freshwater free from bilharzia and crocodiles.

Bunyonyi, translated as, 'place of little birds,' so is the home of several bird species. Enjoy birdwatching, as well as canoeing on the lake, local interactions and hiking. The views are pretty spectacular. Uganda has grand lakes, but Bunyonyi is one of its most picturesque.

Hike the Mount Rwenzori Mountains

Straddling the border with DRC are the Rwenzori Mountains. Also known as the 'Mountains of the Moon,' Mt. Rwenzori is home to Uganda's tallest mountain, Mount Stanley. The snow-capped mountain is the 3rd tallest in Africa, standing at 5,109m.

Most people settle themselves at a hotel/guesthouse in Kasese before the trip. The hike begins from Kilembe. There are several trekking options- from short days to multi-day hikes. However, to reach Margherita Peak, you will undertake a challenging 8 or 9-day trek.

Sample Ugandan Cuisine

Trying the local cuisine of a different country only enhances your overall travel experience, so one of the top adventures to do in Uganda is sample some of the country's most popular foods.

At most restaurants, you are likely to be served traditional dishes such as luwombo (fish, beef or chicken steamed in banana leaves) a hearty meal of pinto beans, onions, green peppers, and onions served with posho (mingled corn flour).
