overview
The current centre of the city is Nakasero. While the lower part is the commercial sector, the top part was mostly a residential neighbourhood for colonial administrators. The State House, the best hotels, retail malls, etc. are located on Nakasero hill, which is 4,134 feet above sea level. The centre of the city is there.
Hotels like the Sheraton Kampala Hotel, Serena Hotel (previously Nile Hotel), Grand Imperial Hotel, and Speke Hotel can be found at Upper Nakasero.
Numerous embassies as well as premium housing may be found in Nakasero. Ordinary Ugandans tend to reside towards the base of the hill, where property prices are less expensive, and are scarce in high Nakasero. The top of Nakasero hill is quite different from the bottom. It has a lively African street scene with stores and roadside vendors where you may buy clothing, footwear, and inexpensive electronics. There are also low-cost motels, eateries, marketplaces, and busy matatu taxi parks. Visit the marketplaces and taxi parks to experience the atmosphere of an African street. One of the most vibrant markets for fresh foods is the one in Nakasero.
