Where to go for fun and entertainment in Kampala

Kampala is a vast and dynamic city with a plethora of exciting events taking place all the time. If you know where to look, you'll find plenty to keep you occupied!

Theatre

Theatre Labonita (plot 8 colville street, next to Emirates Airline Opp.Christ the King Church) & the National theatre (located on Plot 2, 4 & 6 Dewinton Road opposite Parliament). For information about upcoming performances, theatre fans should contact La Bonita and the National Theatre.

Open Mic & Performance

'Kampala Voices,' an open-to-all choir that meets at Goethe Zentrum (plot 52, Bukoto Street), Kahwa2Go (Ntinda Kisaasi Road, Ntinda Complex, Opposite St. Luke's Church) hosts spoken word, and Safari Homes (100M off Mawanda rd Mulago) hosts twice-monthly drum circles. If acting is your thing, look up 'Kampala Amateur Dramatics'.

Movies

The best cinema is Century Cinemax at Acacia Mall, but Ham Cinemax Uganda (Plot 923 Makerere Hill Rd, Kampala) and 3D Cinema Magic ( at Metroplex shopping mall Naalya) also show blockbusters. The Alliance Française and the Goethe Zentrum (plot 52, Bukoto Street) share a building and frequently hold screenings and events on the roof. The movies here are in French and German, with English subtitles

Karaoke

In Kampala, karaoke is very popular, and the performers are not shy! Bubbles O'Leary's Irish Pub(19 Acacia Avenue, kololo), BBQ Lounge (Centenary Park, Jinja), Nanjing Hotel (Plot 62B1, Lugogo By-pass Road), Arirang hotel (Plot 15A Kyadondo Rd), and Kololo Courts (plot 3 Dundas Road, Lower Kololo) are some of the best places.

Live Music

Kampala is a party city, with live music and dancing available every night of the week. Try Cayenne, Bubbles. Gatto Matto, Zone 7, Grand Imperial Hotel, Dancing Cup, Liquid Silk, Jazz Ville, Fuego, Guvnor, Otters Bar, The Square, Sheraton, and Big Mike's are just a few of the places to visit. Music, movies, dance, and theatre are all featured at the National Theatre. Traditional performances are held at the Ndere Centre. Another great way to find up-to-date event information is on Facebook pages.

Casinos

There are a number of casinos in Kampala, each with its own set of slot and table games. Pyramids is a nice place to play poker, Casino Simba features bingo, Kampala Casino is laid-back, Mayfair casino is the most upscale, and Taj Mahal is welcoming and has good music.

City Tours

For a tour on two wheels, look for 'Walter's Boda Tours' or the 'Kampala Boda Boda Tours.' If you prefer to walk, take the wonderful 'Kampala Walking Tour' or the 'Bwaise Slum Tour,' both of which are led by residents and benefit the community.

Comedy

Stand-up comedy is most frequently performed in Theatre La Bonita.

Art Galleries

Kampala's art scene is booming, with numerous small galleries. Afriart, Ujuzi Gallery, Asante, the National Theatre, and 32° East / Ugandan Arts Trust are all worth visiting. The Aka Gallery, the Makerere UNiversity Gallery, Umoja, Karibu Art, and others are among them. Nommo is also on this list of Ugandan Art Galleries.

if you feel that we've missed out on any interesting place, your comments are most welcome.
