Café Javas: A Reliable Spot in Kampala

A Kampala Staple If you’re looking for a reliable spot to enjoy a cup of coffee, a bite to eat, or a free wifi connection in Kampala, you can’t go wrong with Café Javas. This Somali-owned chain has expanded to several locations across the city, offering a variety of western dishes, from sandwiches and salads to curries and burgers. And yes, even Mexican food.

My Regular Visits to Café Javas

I’ve been a regular at the Old Kampala branch, which is conveniently close to my home and often has power when my place doesn’t. I love their coffee, which is always smooth and strong, and their wifi, which is free for 30 minutes with any purchase. The service is also fast and friendly, which is not always the case in this town.

The Culinary Delights at Café Javas

But what really sets Café Javas apart from other cafés is the quality and quantity of their food. Everything I’ve tried here has been delicious and satisfying, especially their Mexican offerings. I know it sounds odd, but trust me, their quesadillas and burritos are the best in town. Their guacamole, salsa, and refried beans are fresh and flavorful, and the portions are generous. I also recommend their milkshakes, club sandwiches, chocolate croissants, and BBQ burgers. And if you’re looking for a hearty breakfast, you can’t go wrong with their Farmhouse option, which includes coffee, juice, toast, eggs, potato wedges, sausages, and bacon.

The Vibrant Atmosphere of Café Javas

All Café Javas outlets have a similar look and feel: modern, minimalist, and orange-and-brown themed. They also have air conditioning for those hot days when you need to cool off. The clientele is diverse and lively: you’ll see Somalis, expats, backpackers, locals, and freeloaders like me. And the best part? You’ll always have leftovers to take home for later.

Value for money at Café Javas

The prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity: coffee ranges from 6,000 to 10,000 UGX, milkshakes are 17,500 UGX, and food is between 15,000 and 50,000 UGX.

So if you’re in Kampala and looking for a place to relax, work, or meet up with friends, head to Café Javas. You’ll find one near any City Oil petrol station sign. And don’t forget to try their Mexican food. You’ll thank me later.
