Why we (theeye Uganda) changed our name

We’ve Changed Our Name. But Not Our Passion.

Why we (theeye Uganda) changed our name

If you've been to our website or social media pages today, you might have noticed a slight change in us. But in reality, nothing has changed at all.

We've changed our name. But that's all we've changed.

What’s in a Name?

Companies may change their names for a number of reasons, including mergers and acquisitions, ownership changes, or in response to a shifting business environment. A change can bring the name into alignment with the company's mission, culture, and philosophy. Renaming a business can also help it better reflect its core benefits, services, and value proposition.

The Move from "Theeye Uganda" to "Here in Uganda"

Actually, we've been debating this for a while. And this month, we officially introduced that new name to the world.

Starting today (August 14th, 2022), we leave our Theeye Uganda name behind and become Here in Uganda.  (But our friends can call us HiUG.)

Why are we changing our name?

You may know us as Theeye Uganda. And we've been helping readers with their journeys to discover Uganda under that name for the past 2 years.

When we started, that name was a perfect fit and nobody was using it.

Simple, right?

But since then, an old magazine that had gone extinct suddenly resurfaced with a claim to a similar name. (Even though there were clear differences)

So to be honest, a name like Theeye Uganda just doesn't do us justice any more.

(It also didn't help when some people got us confused with that company themselves. We love those guys, but they're not us!)

What does it mean?

We're not going to bore you with all the deliberations we went through when choosing a name.

If we're being honest, it's a name we made up for ourselves.

And after 2 years of working on this website, it just feels right to have a change.

This name change reflects our unique and inclusive way of capturing and exchanging thoughts about critical locations to discover what matters most in the Ugandan community at-large.

Does this mean we're changing?

Absolutely not.

We haven't been bought out. We're not going through a radical transformation.

We aren't changing what we do. And we aren't changing how we help expatriates, tourists, visitors  and businesses like yours.

We're still the same helpful team of knowledgeable people, giving you the same expert service you need.

We hope our rebranding efforts will help us more accurately position "Here in Uganda"—as a website that inspires greater insight for a greater good through inclusive stakeholder engagement and collaboration.
