And we got a chance to see and learn more, with a guided tour around Mabira forest lodge. Mabira forest has different villages, these are called enclaves. Enclaves are the original villages or communities around Mabira. The forest is home to 312 species of trees, 315 species of birds, 218 Butterfly species and 23 small mammal species.

Forest walk

At this lodge you will understand the delicate balance between human intervention and conservation. It was amidst all this that We met Kasozi, a forest guide so passionate about the forest and its medicinal capacity. 

Among these medicinal trees, you'll find; "omweganza", AKA love potion. With this newfound treasure, I must warn the girls to keep away, for quite some time.

And our next stop calls for even more attention. The tree is called "mutasesa". The English name is Prunus Africana. The medicine from this tree clears blood vessels and also helps in treating prostates in men.

There's Ficus Celtis Africana. This tree produces an odor to chase away animals from eating from it. The local name is "Namunuuka". There's "Mukuzanume". This cures flu, cough and stomach ache. It is quite bitter.

About the rainforest lodge.

Using natural materials and the integration of design with forested surroundings, the rain forest lodge has been well recognized for its distinctive architecture. An idea from its founder Mr. Zaid.

Mr. Zaid's actual full process was to have privacy within the community. Rather than have a generic style of hotel, where boxes are just laid out on top of each other. What he decided to do was build cottages and situate them strategically inside the forest. So when you're away in your own cottage, you know you're amongst people but when you look out over your balcony, you can't see them. It gives you a sense of freedom.

 Aside from accommodation there are also different activities that guests can engage in during their stay here.

The captivating forest sound

it's more of a collection of the forest inhabitants. You can hear the buzzing of the insects in the background. We hear the chirping of the birds, the monkeys jumping from tree to tree and it's like a symphony. Through the day and as it changes from morning, down through to the evening you hear the sounds change and it almost sets a mood.
