Wildlife and Flora

The forest is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including the majestic chimpanzee. It also boasts over 84 species of plants and trees, including the valuable mahogany.

Conservation Efforts

In 2021, the Wildlife Conservation Society partnered with the NFA to train field staff in the Albertine region to do smart data analysis using mobile phones, laptops, and GPS units. This partnership also contributed to the restoration of the Rwensama forest reserve.

Threats

Despite its beauty and ecological importance, the forest faces several threats. These include charcoal burning, hunting, illegal lumbering, firewood collection, and cash crop farming such as sugarcane, rice, and tobacco.

Conclusion

The Rwensama Central Forest Reserve is more than just a forest; it’s a symbol of Uganda’s rich biodiversity and a testament to the country’s commitment to environmental preservation.
